Zeus was the supreme deity in Greek mythology. He was the son of Cronos and Rhea. The Romans identified Zeus with their Jupiter, an all powered sky God. After the overthrow of Cronos, Zeus divided up the world between himself and his two brothers, Hades and Poseidon. Zeus chose to rule the sky. Hades the underworld, and Poseidon the sea; the earth and mount Olympus, which was the home of the Gods, were regarded as common territory.
